Making it Personal
A
mother brought her son into the health center regarding enlarged lymph
glands of several weeks duration. She had no health insurance,
and had been off work for two weeks taking care of her mother who died
during that time of breast cancer.
Mom was worried that her son might have something serious, but had no
money to go to an urgent care for treatment. She was so relieved to
find that her son could have lab tests done here at the SBHC, with
treatment as well. She was both tearful and grateful, hugging all the
staff and thanking us for relieving her worst fears regarding her son’s
health concerns.
SBHC Awareness Month: Are you ready?
Governor Kulongoski declared that February is SBHC Awareness Month. Please don't miss this incredible opportunity to build community support for access to quality health care
in schools. The Network is leading this effort by working to
increase public and policy maker understanding of school-based health
care while also providing guidance to SBHC communities state wide.
During
the month of February, 2010, school-based health centers across Oregon
will conduct special promotional activities to generate awareness about
school-based health centers, the services they provide to the community
and the lives affected by these services. If you need some great
ideas for engaging your own community, check out our Awareness Month Tool Kit, available on our website.
