Introduction

Each year since 1997, the Federal Interagency Forum on Child and Family Statistics has published a report on the well-being of children and families.

Pending data availability, the Forum updates all 40 indicators annually on its Web site (http://childstats.gov) and alternates publishing a detailed report, America’s Children: Key National Indicators of Well-Being, with a summary version that highlights selected indicators.

At the 2009 Annual School-Based Health Care Conference, the SBHC committee of the Multnomah Youth Commission conducted a review of SBHCs that resulted in

1)  concrete feedback regarding youth perceptions of SBHCs in general

2)  suggestions for making SBHCs more comfortable, trusted sources of health care

3)  marketing ideas that might be better received by youth than traditional, adult-driven campaigns

QPR (Question, Persuade, Respond) is a suicide prevention technique for anyone who might be in a position to intervene and be a first responder in preventing a suicide (pretty much everybody).  It is being developed for use in online communications. 

The QPR Institute launched the Online Suicide Intervention Specialist training program.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has established a Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Plan (PCIP) for uninsured Americans who have been unable to obtain health coverage because of a pre-existing health condition. This plan may benefit families whose insurance options are limited or non-existent because of their child’s special health needs.
